Dundee school plans capital improvement project

DUNDEE--Dundee Central School is proposing security improvements, bus garage renovations, and a roof replacement estimated at $7,708,588 for its 2018 capital improvement project.
School administrators said, "The focus of this project will consist of security improvements to the main school facility and campus site, replacement of the roof system over the original building, and renovations and alterations to the existing garage."
The school is eligible for 81.7 percent state building aid and will be using $1 million of reserve funds to offset the impact to local taxpayers. To cover the project, the school will levy 5.33 percent of the costs, at an impact of $14.15 per $100,000 assessed value to taxpayers.
The security improvements will include updating surveillance equipment, installing around 70 new high-definition cameras, and improving the door access control and monitoring. They will also include upgrading the network and digital storage, acquiring motion and intrusion detection equipment, and getting the IT infrastructure upgrades needed to support the system.
The roof replacement will include the removal of the 1938 uninsulated roof system and the installation of about 40,000 square feet of an insulated roof system. This replacement will come with a 30-year warranty and replace the last section of roof not under warranty. It will also improve energy efficiency of the building.
The bus garage renovations will include a new bus lift, properly sized maintenance bays, enlarged doors, masonry restoration of the exterior and roof system replacement. They will also include code-compliant mechanical systems, site circulation and drainage improvements, and other enhancements required to bring the facility to code.
The school continued, "If funding becomes available, there are proposed alternates, such as the replacement of the existing playgrounds and replacement of the main electronic sign at the entrance to the campus for improved visibility and communication to the community."
A public presentation and tour will be Thursday, May 24 at 5 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room at Dundee Central School. The vote will be Wednesday, June 6 from noon to 8 p.m., also in the Public Meeting Room.
