DUNDEE--The Dundee Musical Theater Club will present "Seussical" starting Thursday, March 3, and running through Saturday, March 5. All three performances start at 7 p.m.
The play is directed by Scott Shepardson and involves a cast of 45, with 13 in the crew and orchestra. The production has students in grades three through 12, who have been rehearsing for the show since shortly after Christmas break.
"Seussical" features many Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and Jojo, a little boy with a big imagination. The colorful characters visit several settings from the Jungle of Nool, to the Circus McGurkus, to the invisible world of the Whos. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks."
Horton faces a double challenge, as not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. Seussical is rated G for the whole family.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
