GORHAM--The bands of the Dundee Central School District had strong performances throughout the weekend at the Gorham Pageant of Bands. The pageant was held Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, which featured a parade of marching bands down Gorham's Main Street. Dundee scored two first place finishes with their high school concert band and junior high school concert band. The marching band and jazz bands also added second place finishes throughout the weekend.
The Gorham Pageant of Bands is a celebration of music in schools and has been a tradition for 55 years in the hamlet of Gorham. A number of Dundee student musicians contributed to the school's success. Patrick Dunham said there are 42 students who participate in the high school concert band, along with 34 in the junior high band. He said there are also 15 students who perform in the jazz band, with 83 performing in the marching band. Dunham noted most of those who participate in the concert band also perform in the marching band.
The Dundee high school concert band comported against Gananda, South Seneca, two Corning-Painted Post bands, Medina and Baldwinsville. The marching band performed in Saturday's parade along with Roxboro Road middle school, South Seneca, Naples, Medina, Corning-Painted Post and Baldwinsville.
The Penn Yan sixth grade concert band also performed at Gorham over the weekend. The band included 24 students, and was the only band in the sixth grade category.
