Freedom Village files Chapter 11 protection

LAKEMONT--Freedom Village USA, the Lakemont facility for troubled youths operating under the name of Gates Community Chapel of Rochester, Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the western district court of New York.
The initial paperwork was dated Feb. 21 and filed March 9 with the court. Fletcher A. Brothers is listed as president of the organization and the authorized representative of the debtor.
The largest unsecured claim listed by Freedom Village in the bankruptcy filing includes alleged unpaid employee wages, interest and penalties totaling $1,523,834.19. Vilda Vera Mayuga, chairperson of the New York State Industrial Board of Appeals said Friday, March 16, "The amount of alleged unpaid wages totals $1.5 million. The arguments and summations in this matter have been concluded and the next board meeting is scheduled for June 6."
The bankruptcy court documents also show Gates Community Chapel of Rochester, d/b/a Freedom Village, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1990.
