WATKINS GLEN--With the Watkins Glen International Vintage Grand Prix being moved to July in 2015, the annual Grand Prix Festival downtown may remain in September, with an additional event. The move comes due to WGI's repaving project taking place that year, which will begin in the summer starting with "The Boot" in July, and the rest of the track being completed following the NASCAR race in August. Carole Pierce of Watkins Glen Promotions said there was "nothing really resolved" during a meeting last week. Preliminary discussions regarding the Grand Prix Festival have indicated the event will remain in September, with a possible second event to coincide with the race.

"It is a work in progress and hopefully something exciting will come out of it," Pierce said.
Pierce said it was not really a question of if the event was going to be held in September, but more about if it will be possible to hold a separate event in July. She said there was another meeting with county and village officials Tuesday, Nov. 18, which is after press time. Pierce said the main reason the event is not moved to coincide with the race is because the event sponsors set their calendar a year in advance. She added the streets are usually busier in the summer months with the state park, marina and businesses drawing crowds to downtown Watkins Glen.
