Hammondsport school board 07/15/09

Meeting: The Hammondsport Central School board of education met July 15 for 1 hour and 55 minutes, plus a 35 minute executive session.
Attendance: Richard Drain was absent.  All other members were present, plus school officials and an audience of six.
Discussion without action: Food service manager Marlissa Zema reported that rising costs mean that the cafeteria is currently running at a shortfall of about $300 a day during the school year.  This may lead to an increase in meal prices, though Zema stressed that she wants to maintain nutrition and accessibility.
• Elementary principal Michelle Sincerbox reported that 100 to 105 students are taking meals each day during summer session.
• Superintendent Kyle Bower reported that the 2009-10 calendar is delayed, as the state has suddenly shifted required ELA and Math exams from January and March administrations to a May administration.
Bids/purchases over $1,000:  The board approved a $24,640 contract with Catholic Charities for counseling services.
Appointments/resignations: Joy Manchester-Pierce retired.
• Kelley Meade was given a leave of absence from Sept. 9 to Nov. 12.
Upcoming meetings:  The next regular meeting is Wednesday Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.
