Hammondsport school board 11/18/09

Meeting:  The Hammondsport Central School Board of Education met Nov. 18 for one hour and 25 minutes, plus a 25 minute executive session.
Attendance: The full board, plus school officials and an audience of nine were present.
Discussion without action: Elementary Principal Michelle Sincerbox reported that the state Department of Education has nominated the Glenn H. Curtiss Memorial School for recognition as a federal Blue Ribbon school. Curtiss School was one of 19 nominated statewide, with over 3,000 elementary and middle schools eligible. Superintendent Kyle Bower said that Curtiss School was nominated because as its poverty level has risen, its academic achievement has risen even faster, countering the typical trend. Lengthy application materials will now be prepared for the U.S. Department of Education, who will select the final Blue Ribbon schools.
Appointments: The board approved the following appointments;
• William R. Fries, transportation supervisor, 26-week probationary appointment; $34,000/year.
• Lynda Lowin, on-call substitute teacher K-12, $80/day.
• Lowin, boys basketball scorekeeper, $500.
• Trevor Parke, boys basketball scoreboard operator, $250.
