Hammondsport votes to invest $550K in tech

HAMMONDSPORT--Voters of the Hammondsport Central School District approved the spending of $550,000 for audiovisual technology equipment and supplies, including 50 Promethean interactive classroom displays, at a special school vote Thursday, Dec. 13.
The authorization will also include up to 60 laptop computers, six 3D printers and corresponding cabling, docking stations, monitors, wireless keyboards, document cameras and necessary network upgrades.
The district said the funds will come from the school's existing capital reserve fund (established back in 2013) and the balance from the district's general fund balance for the 2018-19 school year.
The official vote totals for the resolution were: 76 'Yes" and 13 'No'.
Hammondsport Superintendent Kyle Bower said, "We set aside dollars in the reserve fund several years ago to handle this kind of investment. We will now have the interactive Promethean boards mounted in classrooms instead of moving them around on school carts. This investment will help our students with all current devices and technology opportunities."
