Jerusalem town board 6/15/11

    Meeting: The Jerusalem town board met for approximately two and one half hours on Wednesday, June 15.
    Attendance: All members of the town board were present. Approximately 12 members of the public were in the audience.
    Action: Board members voted to have independent assessments for elected officials. An assessor may be hired from another town for the purpose. The assessor will be selected by the town board.  The first is expected by April 2012.
    • A public hearing was scheduled at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, for comments on an unsafe structure at 2958 Rt. 54A.
    Discussion without action: The hydrofracking impact study committee is planning a public presentation on the topic on Tuesday, July 26. The time and location are to be determined.
    • The Wind Farm committee has sent a draft review of regulations to Attorney Phil Bailey.
    •  The board did not approve a request from office staff to have remote access to their computers. Concerns were expressed about confidentiality.
    • An interview committee was named for the position of assessor. The committee will screen applicants. The town board will then interview those candidates.
    • The assessment committee reported May 22 was to be the final day for the tax rolls. It was thought that the supervisor could sign the roll. Yates County Real Property Tax Director Pat Brede informed the town supervisors cannot sign the tax rolls.
    • There was a discussion about the town leaving the Yates County Workman’s Compensation program and having coverage through a private company. No decision was made.
    Appointments/resignations: Beverly Eggburtson was reappointed director of the summer recreation program. The program will run from July 11 to Aug. 11.
    Upcoming meetings: The next meeting is Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m.
