Lake Country Players will present 'Sister Act'

WATKINS GLEN--The Lake Country Players will present "Sister Act, the Musical" Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday. Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Watkins Glen high school auditorium.
Sara Caldwell plays the role of showgirl Deloris VanCartier. Deloris accidentally witnesses her gangster boyfriend Curtis (Steve Hovis) murder an undercover cop (Anthony Curren). She runs to the police where officer "Sweaty Eddie" (John Bloodgood) arranges for her to become a protected witness in Holy Angels convent. Mother Superior (Lisa McKnight) warns Deloris that none of her worldly behavior will be tolerated, and that the only diversion she may practice is directing the worst-sounding nun choir ever.
Sister Mary Clarence (aka Deloris) is given the conductor's baton from Sister Mary Lazarus (Kathy Gill) and begins the monumental task of turning the nuns into a dynamic singing group. She has to tone down the exuberance of Sister Mary Patrick (Amy Isett) and penetrate the painful shyness of Sister Mary Robert (Kelsey Johnson). The Monsignor (Todd Lamarr) believes a miracle has happened--the nun choir has such an upbeat sound, and his church is revived.
Curtis's henchmen (Nate Faunsworth, HNate Rose and Stephen Cole) are out to get to Deloris by any means, and the surprise ending is as full of energy and emotion as the rest of the show.
The nun chorus ( Dani Rumsey, Kristen Heichel, Casey Smith, Melissa Norton, Deb Manzer, Sue Larson, Alison Eldon, Lavonne Finnefrock, Deanda Neufer, Damita Chamberlain and Nancy Cole) is directed by Kim Laursen, accompanied by Sarah Matthews, with choreography by Heather Evans. Watkins Glen native Joel Wilbur directs the show.
Business manager Lorry Johnson will have tickets available at the door. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and $8 for students.
