Marina items fill Montour agendaMONTOUR FALLS—The Montour Falls village board discussed concerns about the village marina and campground, at the Monday, May 17 village board meeting.Mike Hughey, highway department foreman, said it was discovered that a spigot at the marina rest room building is not connected to any pipe. Mayor Donna Kelley said the involved parties will meet to find out how this happened. Kelley also discussed littering/campfire concerns at the bridge where people fish. She added that there are trash cans there, but are not used. Kelley suggested the board put up a sign saying “No campfires” or “No fishing after dusk.” The board approved putting up a “No campfires” sign there. Kelley said it will at least give them something to point to if anyone is caught there now. The board will look into boat trailer parking at the marina. Kelley said it is a problem when seasonal residents leave trailers without boats on the property and the grass around it is not cut. She said she doesn’t want the village going in and weed-wacking around other people’s trailers because the village would be blamed if a wire is slashed. The marina does rent out trailer parking on a weekly basis to non-seasonal visitors to leave the trailer and boat at the marina. Hughey asked the board to hire one more worker, only until work at the marina is completed. The village had already authorized Hughey to hire one summer worker. Hughey explained he interviewed three people, and wants to hire a temporary worker in addition to the approved summer worker. The board approved this request. In other business: The village board renewed the recycling contract with Arrowhead Disposal. Trustee Phil Smith said Arrowhead has served the village well for almost 10 years and saw no reason to hire someone else. • A Memorial Day event will be held, May 31 at 9:30 a.m. at She-Que-Ga Falls. Sheriff Bill Yessman will speak and the Odessa band will perform. • The board approved which sidewalks would be stamped on Main Street, including the Glorious T. Trustee Jim Howell suggested a new crosswalk be put in going diagonally across the road from the Harvest Cafe. He added this would spread the crosswalks pretty evenly down Main Street. • The board will ask the attorney about writing up a law allowing village employees to donate sick or vacation days to a fellow employee who has experienced a hardship. The next Montour Falls village board meeting will be Monday, June 7, at 7 p.m. |
