Memorial run raises nearly $900

KEUKA PARK—The Jon Baldwin Memorial 5K Run/Walk raised around $900 for the Yates County Humane Society, Sunday, Sept. 18, at Keuka College.
Mary Schleiermacher, humane society board vice president and event organizer, said there were 80 participants; 55 had pre-registered. The funds raised will be used by the Shelter of Hope in Yates County.
The top finisher was Brock Phelps, with 21:05.51. The first female to cross the line was Sharon Kuver, with 24:14.34. The winners by age group were:
    • 10 and under, Bryce Gunderman.
    • 11 to 19, Kyle Morgan.
    • 20 to 19, Phelps.
    • 30 to 39, Sean Dallos.
    • 40 to 49, Kuver.
    • 50 to 59, George Schaerti.
    • 60 to 69, Matt Herson.
Schleiermacher added the participants included a family of seven, who had two children place in the top three in their age groups. Winners were given gift certificates to area restaurants. She added help presenting the 5K run/walk, included the Elk’s Club paying for the timer.
The event was held in memory of Jon Baldwin. Schleiermacher explained he passed away last fall. The event’s motto displayed on t-shirts, “Run-Run,” was his license plate number. Schleiermacher added that there used to be a 5K at Keuka College, but it wasn’t held last spring. She said she thought of doing a similar event to benefit the humane society.
