Milo board approves Morgan Marine expansion

MILO—Plans for expansion at Morgan Marine in Penn Yan were approved by the Milo zoning board of appeals, April 29.  The project, which includes modifications  like additional parking and 42 docks, was presented during a Milo zoning board of appeals public hearing.
The proposed project at the southern edge of Route 54 in Penn Yan, adjacent to Red Jacket Park, contains 2.556 combined acreage with approximately 140 feet of lake frontage. In July 2008, owners applied for a Special Use permit for the expansion. Meetings continued later in the year and early this year. One of the issues that had to be considered was the Keuka Lake Dock and Mooring Law, which specifies regulations for docks at marinas as well as at private property.
After extensive discussion, the board approved the project which limits the number of boat slips to a maximum of 153. After the matter was voted on, zoning board Chairperson William Laffin thanked owners Jeff, Kathy and Ryan Kennedy for their patience during the process.
Later in the week, Ryan Kennedy said the next step is to get a permit from New York state for the additional docks, a requirement because the state owns the land under the docks. This permit may be issued this year, but it will be too late to add the docks in 2009. Once the permit is issued, work may begin on a project that has been two years in the making.
