Milo creates reserves for water lines

PENN YAN—The Milo town board established five capital reserve funds at their meeting Monday, Sept. 19. The purpose of the funds is to set aside money for the eventual replacement of water lines in Himrod 1A, Milo 1, 2, 3 and Milo Sewer 1-2. Socha said the line in Milo 3 is 100 years old. It will eventually need replacing. That district is on Himrod Road past East Main Street. There are 10 customers in Milo 3. Socha said, “We will try to get a bit put aside each year.”
In other business: No one spoke during a public hearing on closing Trenchard Road. The road is in the southern section of the town. The proposal will be sent to the town and county planning boards next month.
    • The board agreed to join other local municipalities in urging the Department of Environmental Conservation to adopt the same standards as those for New York City and Syracuse Watersheds. The standards relate to drilling for natural gas.
    • The board discussed the possibility of scheduling a public forum on drilling for natural gas. Council member Leslie Church said she had been contacted by a Barrington resident to see if there was interest in the two towns offering a program. Discussion followed on the number of forums on the issue that have taken place in the county. Socha said zoning issues are one thing the town could study.
    • A budget workshop is scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10. Socha said, “It will be the most difficult budget we have ever had.” Socha mentioned the two percent tax cap and new reporting requirements from the State Comptroller’s office as two of the challenges.
The next meeting of the Milo Town Board will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. The meeting will be in the town hall on Main Street in Penn Yan.
