Montour cuts marina fishing

MONTOUR FALLS—The Montour Falls village board eliminating fishing hours at the marina, at the Monday, May 16, meeting.
Clerk Suzanne Casselberry said some fishermen were leaving garbage and and not picking up after themselves.
In other business:
• Greg Cummings, Larson Design Group representative, presented a draft waste water treatment plant feasibility study.  Casselberry said the village has until April 1 to apply for a state grant.
• The board amending the zoning law to include veterinarian to the core use permit.  The village held a public hearing on the change during the meeting.  However, there was only one comment and that was in support of the change.
• A June 20 public hearing was scheduled for increasing the sewer rates.  Casselberry said the water rate would stay the same, but the proposed sewer rate increase is $3.62 per one thousand gallons, up from $3.02.  She added the board is considering lowering the debt service charge for a unit to $98.23, from $104.  Casselberry explained this might help offset the increase.
• The board approved an addendum to the fire department’s insurance for accidents and sickness.
• Mayor John King was authorized to execute a tax warrant to collect 2011-12 taxes.
• The village will hold a Memorial Day Service, Monday, May 30, at 9:30 a.m. at the She-Qua-Ga Falls park.
• The board renewed the recycling contract with Arrowhead Disposal with no change in the rate.
• A bid of $50 was accepted to purchase the surplus seating in the village hall.
• The board is studying a New York State Electric and Gas program to improve lighting in the village.
The next village board meeting is Monday, June 6, at 7 p.m.
