Montour will reopen yacht club building

MONTOUR FALLS—The Montour Falls village is looking to make use of the former yacht club building at the marina and campgrounds.
Mayor John King said that will start with setting up the restrooms for use by the marina boaters.  The yacht club building is located at the northern most part of the marina.  King said the village will put up a partition wall, separating the bathrooms from the main building.  It could then be used by boaters who are too far away from the new bathroom/washroom.  He added that they eventually want to add doors from the inside so the bathrooms are accessible that way, but not so the inside is necessarily accessible from the bathrooms.
“We’re looking at things to do with it,” said King.
He said the village would eventually like to offer the building as a place for events at the marina/campground.  King explained it is useful because it has its own septic system.  It also had its own kitchen, when it was owned by the yacht club.  However, he added that the village doesn’t want to open up the building to the general public.
Other plans at the marina include repairing a number of docks.  King explained that the village will be paying for two year’s worth of docks to be repaired, as none were fixed last year.  The work is expected to start in April.
“They’re in different stages of need,” said King.  “Some will be repaired, some replaced.”
One addition for this year will be a playground.  King said the village will be installing a new set, after the previous equipment was removed.  The village board approved the purchase of a new playground last year at the request of marina staff and patrons.
Schuyler County Partnership for Economic Development (SCOPED) is also looking into grants to cover work on a seawall at the northern section of the marina.  King said that too needs repairs.
