Morehouse will continue as school board president

    PENN YAN—Jeff Morehouse was reelected president of the Penn Yan Central School District board of education on July 6. Ryan Hallings was elected vice-president.
    New board member Renee Bloom and returning board members Anita Maroscher and Nancy Scher were also sworn in.  The elections were part of the annual reorganizational meeting.
    The meeting was the first day for David Hamilton as Superintendent of Schools. Hamilton told the board his first day was, “Exciting and eventful.”  Hamilton told the board he would like to have a board retreat. Hamilton has two agenda items he would like to address: Communication and a  Strategic Plan.
    Plans will be discussed at the next meeting of the board of education. Referring to his first day, Hamilton said, “I was pleased, psyched, excited, and humbled. I can’t wait to get to work tomorrow.”
    In other business:
    • Morehouse announced the correct percentage of increases for faculty under the new contract. It is 2.29 percent. Morehouse said a percentage of 2.9 percent had been in The Chronicle-Express.
    • Overhead charges for facility use and interscholastic athletics admission price policies were approved.
    • Season passes for athletic events are available at the PYA athletics office. Senior Citizens Passes and Parents Passes are also available. There is no fee for that type of pass. Post season contests are charged per Section V policy.
    • Nonresident tuition rates were established.
    • Accepted a donation of $1,225 from Theresa Bodine for the PYA Class of 2013.
    The next meeting of the Penn Yan Central School District board of education will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20. The meeting will be in the elementary school cafeteria.
