Motorcycle ride will come to Montour

MONTOUR FALLS—The annual Pride Ride will be stopping in Montour Falls again this year, Saturday, June 26.
At the Monday, June 7 meeting, the Montour Falls village board approved closing off West Main Street, from Owego to Genesee Streets, from 3 to 7 p.m. for the event. Mayor Donna Kelley said the motorcycle riders will be stopping in the village between 5 and 7 p.m., but wanted the extra time so the closed part of the street can be cleared of cars.
Kelley said the event brings in between 1,200 and 1,500 riders. She added she has not talked to the fire department yet about having a fire truck escort them in and out of the village. This has been done in previous years.
In other business:
• The board amended the tax warrant for 2010-11, and re-levied sewer to reduce by $192.43.
• The board approved hiring an additional seasonal worker, but only until the marina work is complete. This increases the seasonal workers to four.
• Trustee Jim Howell said the village should look into having a policy for hanging a banner over the street.
• The village will not purchase a sewer lateral camera. The board decided it was too much money, and if one is needed Montour Falls can borrow one.
• The board approved an Internet connection at the Genesee Street pump station. That way, the pump can be monitored offsite without someone having to be there.
• The village was notified that the Falls Motel Lounge had applied for a tavern license renewal.
• The board approved setting $500 as the price for a memorial bench to placed in a village park. That covers the bench itself and the plaque.
• The board was given an updated list of village owned property.
The next regular board meeting will be Monday, June 21 at 7 p.m.
