Penn Yan school board 03/18/09

Meeting: The Penn Yan Central School District board of education met for approximately one hour Wednesday, March 18 followed by an executive session to discuss personnel matters.
Attendance: Board members Judy Kirk and Nancy Scher were absent. Five members of the public were in the audience.
Action: Scheduled a public hearing on the proposed 2009-10 budget Wednesday May 6 at 7 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.
• Heard an update on the most recent cuts to the 2009-10 budget from Interim Assistant Superintendent for Business Rodger Lewis.
• Announced voting on the annual budget, propositions and election of members of the board of education will be May 19 from noon until 8 p.m. in the Middle School gymnasium.  A new proposition asks if the board of education should be authorized to withdraw $75,000 from the currently existing Capital Reserve Fund and to expend those funds for improvements to the heating, ventilating and/or air conditioning systems at the Middle School.  Other propositions include bus purchase and lease and two Reserve Funds.  Funds were budgeted for the work, however bids came in higher than the $100,000 that was in the account for the project.
Discussion without action: Heard a presentation from Dr. Joseph Marinelli, district superintendent of Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES.
Upcoming meetings: The next regular school board meetings are March 25 and April 1, both at 7 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.
