WATKINS GLEN--At the Thursday, Nov. 3, village of Watkins Glen board meeting, trustees acknowledged submitted reports from department heads, passed several resolutions, and confirmed that personnel from Larson Design are checking water and sewer lines in the village.
"Representatives will be very identifiable," said Village Clerk Fred Warrick. "The trucks are labeled. Their clothes are labeled. They can present identification if asked."
Warrick explained that the representatives will be scanning properties throughout the month of November and confirmed this initiative is part of the water system upgrades.
Earlier in the day, the village received four vehicles, including an F-250, which will be used by the water department, and two F-350s and an F-550, which will be used by the street department. Trustees authorized the down payment of $38,844 and the ensuing monthly payments. These vehicles will replace those currently in use and fulfill the lease the village currently holds with Enterprise.
The Clute Park Phase III redevelopment is underway, with a focus on developing an ADA playground. The village has received preliminary drawings for expanding the campground, and other options for WiFi access at the campground are being explored. Roller skating at the community center is available Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m., with ice skating expected to begin on Dec. 2, depending on the weather. Park Manager Craig Bond is planning the second annual Holiday Fair, which is scheduled for Dec. 2 and 3, and discussions for a revised summer recreation program are underway.
Trustees also authorized the application for grant funds to upgrade the lift station at Clute Park and resolved to pursue bids to continue the water system improvement project. Trustees also confirmed the distribution of LED lightbulbs that will help move the village toward becoming a clean energy community. The lightbulbs will be distributed on Thursday, Nov. 17 in two locations: the Clute Memorial Park office and the village offices. Every household may pick up four bulbs. The village is looking into options for businesses.
