Six vie for Miss Penn Yan title

PENN YAN--This year, the candidates for Miss Penn Yan include juniors and sophomores from Penn Yan Academy. The crowning ceremony will be featured during StarShine, Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6:15 p.m.
Rachael Garvey is the daughter of David and Lisa Garvey, a junior at Penn Yan Academy, and is being sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of the ELKS Lodge #1722. If Rachael was to become Miss Penn Yan, she would like to help build youth for the future by involving adults and youth in reading exchange, service learning projects, athletic activities and participating in music and art programs. Community-based projects like gardening, crafts, and cooking classes could also be considered.
Rachael has participated in varsity tennis, Varsity Club, jazz band, class treasurer, Science Olympiad, and dance. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Her community activities have included washing fire trucks, cleaning/maintaining the firehouse and volunteering. She enjoys being a teacher assistant at PYE and selling tickets at Jr/Sr High All County music/dance events. Rachael enjoys tennis, dance, reading, creative writing, swimming, traveling, painting, biking and drawing.
Izzy Hinkal is a junior at Penn Yan Academy and the daughter of Julia and Jason Hinkal. She is being sponsored by the PY Lions Club. If Izzy were to become Miss Penn Yan she would partner with the Living Well and Sandi Pearl to collect donations for personal hygiene products that could be placed in all the schools during the year for use as students need them.
Tenacity, toughness and compassion are only a few of the words used to describe Izzy by teachers and coaches. She is an active participant in lacrosse, soccer, basketball, and football. Izzy helps foster a safe school environment both physically and mentally by being involved in the Drama Club, PYA choir, PYA band including Solo fest, All-County, and All-State choir. She has been in productions by PYTCo while working with Yearbook Club and International Club to name just a few. She is employed by Sapalta and joined the Barbizon Agency. In her spare time, Izzy enjoys drawing, singing, biking, skiing and baking.
Lillian R. Hoke-Naylor is being sponsored by The Penn Yan FFA. She is a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy and is the daughter of Tabitha Hoke. She is being sponsored by the PY Future Farmers of America. As Miss Penn Yan, Lillian would like to raise awareness of the needs at the Humane Society for toys and food as well as bringing to attention the many folks who take in foster children and need toys and food to support these children. She would also try to get some of the back roads in the area repaved.
Lillian is an excellent student and has been involved in track, International Club, debate, Masterminds, Book Club, Outdoor Adventure Club and Drama Club. She is a valued member of PY FFA and is currently the treasurer. She is currently employed at Longs' Cards and Books, washes dishes at the Penn Yan Diner, volunteers at the Humane Society, and the community garden.
Charlotte Saner is a sophomore at PYA and the daughter of Kelly and Jason Saner. She is being sponsored by the Friends of the Outlet Trail. If she were to become Miss Penn Yan, Charlotte would start a club of her peers to volunteer time to protect and help maintain the Keuka Outlet Trail. She feels the PY student body and everyone in the community should have an awareness of the natural beauty of this gem.
Charlotte is a superior honor roll student, has received the Academic Scholar Award and is a member of National Junior Honor Society. She is employed by Longs' Cards and Books and babysits. Charlotte participates in varsity tennis, cheerleading, Leo Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Ski Club, and Varsity Club. She volunteers for many activities at St. Michael School, and community projects involving both youth and the elderly. She loves walking the outlet trail, reading, swimming, listening to music, and horseback riding to name a few.
Kaitlin Stork, a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy and the daughter of Matthew and Erika Stork is being sponsored by St Michael Court (Catholic Daughters). If chosen to be Miss Penn Yan she would like to develop a program to connect students with adults for advice and support in future career opportunities. She feels this would help students decide what career path might be best for them.
Kaitlin participates in varsity tennis, winter cheerleading, volunteering at the Turkey Trot, Debate Club, Ski Club, and Future Business Leaders of America. Her work experience includes babysitting and working at the Main Deck Restaurant.
Current hobbies enjoyed by Kaitlin are: skiing, running, golfing, pickleball, reading, spending time with her friends and family, watching movies and swimming.
Hailey Trank, a junior at Penn Yan Academy is being sponsored by Penn Yan Theater Company. She would like to spotlight her hometown by celebrating the youth and their accomplishments in the community. According to teachers, Hailey would model this belief if she were to become Miss Penn Yan. She is the daughter of Rebecca and Jason Trank.
Hailey participates in Penn Yan varsity sports including basketball, softball, and volleyball, soccer, as well as several travel leagues. She is a member of the PYTCo Youth Board, Varsity Club, and Varsity Leadership Academy. Hailey works at Seneca Farms and Penn Yan Plumbing.
Hailey excels in the classroom as well currently taking college chemistry and precalculus to name a few. Her current hobbies include club volleyball, travel softball, weightlifting, running, horseback riding and cooking.
