SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-25-23

Watkins Glen
Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team beat Addison, 63-42, Saturday, Jan. 21. Jacob Yontz had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Joseph Sutterby added 14 points and Ryan Willett had 13.
The Senecas defeated Odessa-Montour, 62-46, Tuesday, Jan. 17. Willett contributed 20 points and Alex Holmes and Sutterby each had 11.

Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team lost to Corning, 55-39, Friday, Jan. 20. Rachel Vickio and Brianna Hatch each had 10 points.
The Senecas defeated Odessa-Montour, Wednesday, Jan. 18. The final score was 47-30. Vickio led with 15 points and Jenna Solomon had 11.

Bowling
The Watkins Glen girls and boys bowling teams won against Notre Dame, Friday, Jan. 20. The girls won 4-0 and were led by Katie Cook with a 497. Aubrey Kellogg added a 457 and Ava Cowan had a 449. The boys also won 4-0. Brett Cullen-Pike recorded a 528, while Mykel Cody had a 481 and Corbin Groves a 448.
The bowling team faced Union Springs-Port Byron, Thursday, Jan. 19. The girls fell 3-1, while the boys won 3-1.
For the girls, Kellogg had a 517. In the boys match, Cullen-Pike recorded a 587. Cody had a 496.
The bowling teams lost to Waverly, Tuesday, Jan. 17. The girls fell 3-1, with Cook leading the way with a 531. The boys lost 4-0, led by Cody with a 582.

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swimming team tied Lansing, 91-91, Thursday, Jan. 19.
Recording first-place finishes were: the 200 medley relay team of Ryan Dean, Jon Spencer, Caleb Reynolds and Vincent Ocasio, Liam Smith (200 IM and 500 free), Ocasio (50 free and 100 free), the 200 free relay team (Spencer, Dean, Smith and Ocasio), and Spencer (100 breaststroke).

Odessa-Montour
Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team fell to Moravia, Friday, Jan. 20. The final score was 53-36. Gina Gavich paced the team with 18 points. Hannah Nolan had 16 with eight rebounds.
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team fell to Watkins Glen, 47-30, Wednesday, Jan. 18. Nolan had 11 points and Gavich recorded 10.

Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team lost to Moravia, 69-37, Saturday, Jan. 21. Daniel Lewis scored 13 points in the game.
The Grizzlies lost to Watkins Glen, Tuesday, Jan. 17. The final score was 62-46.

Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen wrestling team competed at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championships, Saturday, Jan. 21. The team was fourth overall with 139 points. Lucas Hoffman took second as did Jackie Mace. Mark Waterman was third and so was Jed Lynch.
The wrestling team won against Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, 42-28, Wednesday, Jan. 18. Recording wins were: Dylan Senecal (pin 3:02), Dana Guild (decision 4-2) and Lucas Hoffman (decision 11-4).

Dundee-Bradford
Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team won against South Seneca, Thursday, Jan. 19. The final score was 51-32. Kendall Parker had 18 points, nine steals and six rebounds. Lily Hall and Mikayla Schoffner both scored seven points and had four and 10 rebounds, respectively.
The BraveScots recorded a big win against Naples, 47-13, Tuesday, Jan. 17. Parker paced the team with 17 points, five rebounds and five steals. Schoffner grabbed 14 points and contributed 10 points. Trisha Edmister and Kailey Yeoman each had four points.

Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team lost to South Seneca 53-45, Friday, Jan. 20. Leading scorers for the BraveScots were Cam Rosemier with 12 points, Logan Buchanan and Nick Slavick with nine points and Aidan Webster with six.
The boys defeated Naples, Wednesday, Jan. 18. The final score was 66-33. Rosemier led with 22 points. Ryan McTamney recorded 16 points and eight steals, while Buchanan added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Wrestling
The Dundee-Bradford wrestling team competed at the Wayne-Finger Lakes League Wrestling Championships last week.
Recording a podium finish was Caleb Bartlett (215) in sixth, losing the fifth-place finals match to Wayne's Jayme Tumia by a pin in 1:52.

Penn Yan
Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys basketball team lost to Waterloo, 71-49, Friday, Jan. 20. Matthew Tones and Tanyon Dunning each scored 17 points.
The Mustangs fell to Geneva, Wednesday, Jan. 18. The final score was 72-37.
The team beat Mynderse 59-54, Tuesday, Jan. 17. Liam Chapman scored 21 points and Dunning recorded 20.

Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost to Mynderse, Wednesday, Jan. 18. The final score was 46-23. Bailey Cooper had eight points, seven rebounds and four steals. Breanne Dunning added five points with three rebounds.

Bowling
The Penn Yan bowling teams faced Newark, Thursday, Jan. 19. Both the boys and girls lost 5-0. Colin Johnson, CJ Miller and Connor Andersen led the boys, while Lyanna Shipman, Bella Miller and Taylor Morse competed for an illness-struck Penn Yan girls team.
The bowling team competed against Marcus Whitman, Tuesday, Jan. 17. The boys lost 4-1 and the girls won 4-1. Johnson paced the boys with a 656 and Andersen recorded a 606. For the girls, Anella Tillman had a 625. Shipman followed with a 484 and Amenia Samatulski recorded a 433.

Indoor Track
The Penn Yan indoor track team competed at the Wayne-Finger Lakes D1 Championships, Thursday, Jan. 19. Top-five finishes were recorded by: James Tette (first - 1,600 meter run - 4:54.27 and first - 3,200 meter run - 10:03.74), Cynthia Kriegar (second - girls shot put), Anthony Wheeler (fifth - 600 meter run), Kyle Wheeler (third - 1,600 meter run), the 4x800 meter relay team (second) and Anthony Sciallo (third - boys shot put).

Wrestling
The Penn Yan wrestling team participated at the Wayne-Finger Lakes League Wrestling Championships last weekend. The team was fifth overall with 120 points. Podium finishers included: Jacob Eaves (second), Ty Conover (third), Cullen Maher (fourth), David Young (fourth), Reed Bouchard (fourth), Jayden Reid (fifth) and Roark Castner (fifth).

Hammondsport
Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls basketball team defeated Jasper-Troupsburg, 39-31, Friday, Jan. 20. Danica Dresser and Rachel Wood each scored 12 points with six rebounds. Samantha Pratt added nine points and four rebounds.

Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys basketball team lost to Arkport-Canaseraga, Thursday, Jan. 19. The final score was 55-32.

Wrestling (Avoca-Prattsburgh/Hammondsport)
The wrestling team participated at the sixth annual Perry Varsity Club Wrestling Tournament, Saturday, Jan. 21. Avoca-Prattsburgh/Hammondsport finished with 40 points.
Nathan Young (118) was fourth. Justin Palmer (189) was fifth, while Dallas Brady (160) took sixth. Hudson Cole (110) and Tristin Davis (138) were both seventh. Devin Stamets (110) and Peyton Hoad (126) were eighth.
