SPORTS RECAP: Week of 10-27-21

Penn Yan-Dundee Football
The Penn Yan-Dundee football team lost to LeRoy, 14-7, Saturday, Oct. 23.
Quarterback Carter Earl connected with Tony Druker for a touchdown in the game.
The team will now face Haverling in the first round of sectionals, Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
The team defeated Hornell, 38-7, Monday, Oct. 18. Earl was 7-for-16 with 151 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Nick Slavick had 10 carries for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Kaden LaBar added three carries for 61 yards and one touchdown.
Ashtian Dunning made three catches for 83 yards in the game and Jayden Reid made one for 33 yards and a touchdown.
Dunning also added seven tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery. LaBar made 10 tackles, followed by Hunter Sheehan with eight. Mason Petersen recorded seven tackles and Druker had three with one interception that was returned for a touchdown.

Dundee Cross Country
The Dundee cross country team competed at Geneva, Tuesday, Oct. 19.
For the boys, Camden Buchanan was seventh in 20:39. Bryten Dunham was 14th in 21:16 while Braedyn Fisher finished 15th also with a 21:16 time. Devon Grandall took 24th with a 23:25.
For the girls, Alissa Eaves was 13th in 26:40 and Charlotte Schuerholz was 17th in 28:41.

Dundee-Bradford Boys Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team defeated Campbell-Savona, 3-2, Saturday, Oct. 23. Aiden Monell started off the scoring in the first half off a corner kick that Logan Ayers sent into the box. Aiden Webster added another goal for the BraveScots off of a direct kick from Jacopo Paniga. Campbell tied the game up in the second half with 18 minutes to go. Logan Ayers scored the winning goal with a penalty kick. Tyler Spina secured four saves in the goal to help secure the win.

Dundee-Bradford Girls Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team fell to Campbell-Savona, 3-2, Tuesday, Oct. 19. The girls went up 2-0 in the first half, with both goals by Kendall Parker and assists from Nicole Peterson and Madison Hughes. Campbell then tied the game at 2-2 to go to penalty kicks to determine the winner. Ellie Fleet had eight saves in the goal. The BraveScots end the season 7-8-2.

Dundee-Bradford Volleyball
The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team defeated South Seneca in five games, Friday, Oct. 22. The game scores were 16-25, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-18.
The team fell to Mynderse Academy, 3-0, Monday, Oct. 18.
The BraveScots will face Cuba-Rushford on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Dundee as sectionals begin.

Penn Yan Cross Country
The Penn Yan cross country team competed at Red Creek, Tuesday, Oct. 19.
For the boys, JD Tette was second in 17:34. Anthony Wheeler was 11th in 19:26. For the girls, Giana Ficcaglia was 14th in 24:42. Madison Bishop and Elizabeth Shoft were 17th and 18th in 25:17 and 25:25, respectively.

Penn Yan Boys Soccer
The Penn Yan boys soccer team won in overtime against North Rose-Wolcott, Saturday, Oct. 23. The final score was 1-0. Zackary Townley had the overtime goal. Goalie Thomas Barden recorded the shut out.
The team will now play in Geneva against Wayland-Cohocton on Wednesday.

Penn Yan Girls Soccer
The Penn Yan girls soccer team defeated Attica in the first round of sectionals, Friday, Oct. 22. The final score was 5-0. Sierra Harrison had two goals with assists from Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger and Avery Castner. Miranda-Wiltberger also had a goal with an assist by Harrison. Morgan Andersen recorded a goal with an assist by Miranda-Wiltberger as did Rebecca Hayes.
Elle Harrison made eight saves in the goal.
The girls now play Mynderse at Newark on Tuesday in the next round of the playoffs.

Penn Yan Tennis
The Penn Yan doubles team of Abigail Garvey and Jayden Hollister recorded a win at the Mendon Racquet Club against Avoca-Hammondsport-Prattsburgh's Camryn Moore and Mallory Patoine (6-0, 6-1) before falling to Brighton's Elizabeth Norris and Kylie Mariano (6-1, 6-2), last week. Brighton would go on to win the final for the class.

Penn Yan Volleyball
The Penn Yan volleyball team lost to Midlakes in three games, Thursday, Oct. 21. The final scores were 16-25, 23-25, 16-25.
The team fell in five games (25-19, 13-25, 23-25, 26-24, 11-25) to Geneva, Tuesday, Oct. 19. Jammie Decker had one ace, 10 kills, two blocks and two digs. Paige Yonts added two aces and three kills, while Hailey Trank had two aces, three kills, 17 assists and one block.

Hammondsport Cross Country
The Hammondsport cross country team competed at Marion, Saturday, Oct. 23. For the boys, Liam Kressly was 71st in 19:35. Blake Wright took 119th in 21:56.

Hammondsport Boys Soccer
The Hammondsport boys soccer team lost to Hinsdale, 2-0, Friday, Oct. 22.
The boys defeated Friendship, 1-0, Tuesday, Oct. 19.
No individual statistics were available.

Hammondsport Girls Soccer
The Hammondsport girls soccer team fell to Batavia Notre Dame, 1-0, Saturday, Oct. 23. Rorie Whitcomb made nine saves.
The soccer team topped Lima Christian, 6-0, Wednesday, Oct. 20. Recording goals were: Arielle Szathmary, Stefania Tears, Sam Pratt, Hannah Hoerter, Danica Dresser and Alexia Swarthout. Assists were registered by: Dresser, Gabrielle Doyle and Hoerter (two). Whitcomb made four saves.

Hammondsport Volleyball
The Hammondsport volleyball team defeated Campbell-Savona in three sets 25-17, 25-22, 25-23 to finish second in the Steuben County League, Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Amber Crane led at the service line with seven aces followed by Seneca Boscoe with four. Holley Kolo was strong at the net with six kills, while Danielle Bennett and Seneca Boscoe each had four. Kolo also had three solo blocks.
"The team came together and played the best they have all season," said coach Erica Webster. "I've been waiting for them to realize their potential and they did tonight."

Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour Swimming
The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour swimming team won the IAC Championship meet at Watkins Glen, Saturday, Oct. 23. The team had 437 points to runner-up Lansing's 385.
First-place finishes were recorded by: the 200 yard medley relay team (Alannah Klemann, Faye Mooney, Emily Melveney and Thalia Marquez), Marquez (100 and 200 free), Klemann (200 IM), Mooney (50 free and 100 breaststroke) and the 200 yard freestyle relay team (Mooney, Klemann, Malina Butler and Marquez).

Watkins Glen Girls Soccer
The Watkins Glen girls soccer team fell to Unatego, 6-2, Wednesday, Oct. 20. Skye Honrath recorded both goals in the game. Abby Gibson had an assist, while goalie Lilly Ameigh made 24 saves.
"I'm very proud of the team and all the hard work they put in this year," said coach Scott Morse. "Battling low numbers and injuries this year was trying, but they kept working hard and always showed up smiling and laughing and enjoying the game."

Watkins Glen Volleyball
The Watkins Glen volleyball team lost to Thomas A. Edison, 3-0, Thursday, Oct. 21. Melanie Wysocki had nine digs with three service points. Chelsea Parsons and Colby Thurston each also had six digs and a kill.
The Watkins Glen volleyball team defeated Odessa-Montour, 3-0, Wednesday, Oct. 20. Ava Barber recorded 10 service points. Sarah Jones had seven. Wysocki added five digs and three aces.

Odessa-Montour Girls Soccer
The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team defeated Cherry Valley-Springfield, Saturday, Oct. 23. The final score was 4-3. Hannah Nolan and Tori Brewster each recorded two goals and one assist. Eliza Starkweather made four saves in the game.
The girls now play in the semi-final game, Wednesday, Oct. 27 against Schenevus.
The soccer team also beat Edmeston 3-2, Wednesday, Oct. 20. Brewster had one goal with two assists and Nolan made two goals in the win. Keyonna Garrison added eight saves.

Odessa-Montour Volleyball
The Odessa-Montour volleyball team lost to Watkins Glen, 3-0, Wednesday, Oct. 20. Dominick Elliott recorded 10 service points with five aces. Hannah Kinner had eight service points and seven assists..
