SPORTS RECAP: Week of 2-22-23

Odessa-Montour
Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team competed for the outright Interscholastic Athletic Conference small school championship, Thursday, Feb. 16. The Grizzlies faced Union Springs in the title game. O-M fell 67-24.
Hannah Nolan scored 11 points in the game. Gina Gavich added 10 points.
The girls now enter the sectional tournament as the five seed and play Hunter-Tannersville, Wednesday. Feb. 22.
Odessa-Montour defeated Spencer-Van Etten, Tuesday, Feb. 14 to claim the small school south title. The final score was 37-27. Nolan scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds. Gavich posted 10 points and Tori Brewster had nine points with 10 steals. Reagan Reese grabbed 10 rebounds.

Bowling
The Odessa-Montour girls bowling team took seventh in the Section 4 tournament last week in Vestal. The boys team finished sixth.

Watkins Glen
Bowling
The Watkins Glen girls bowling team took fourth in the sectional tournament held last week in Vestal. The team had a total pinfall of 2440 with Aubrey Kellogg leading the girls with a 554. Ava Cowan had a 529 and Maisie Robertson added a 481.
"I'm real proud of our team performed today, we finished the season strong," said Coach Ward Brower. "We studied the oil pattern on paper and the girls did a great job of understanding it and making adjustments without being able to physically practice on it before the tournament. Seniors Alyiah Clink-Bentley and Aubrey Kellogg will be missed."
The boys were ninth overall. Brett Cullen-Pike led with a 602. Corbin Groves had a 549.
Added Brower, "We bowled against some of the top teams in New York State. Brett Cullen- Pike finishing with a game of 244 for a 602 series as an 8th grader, under that kind of pressure, was amazing."

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swim team hosted the sectional tournament for Class C, Saturday, Feb. 18 and Wednesday, Feb. 15. The Schuyler Storm was second overall with 419 points. Chenango Forks took the top spot with 517 points.
Winners in the event included: the 200 medley relay team (Ryan Dean, Jon Spencer, Liam Smith, Vincent Ocasio), Smith (200 free and 500 free) and Dean (200 IM).

Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team will compete in the sectional tournament, Friday, Feb. 24. The Senecas will face the winner of a lower-seed game on Tuesday and host the Friday game.

Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team will open the sectional tournament on the road against Sidney, Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Dundee-Bradford
Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team will open their sectional run with a game against C. G. Finney, Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Dundee. The BraveScots go into the game as the eighth seed and Finney is ninth.

Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford girls varsity basketball team is seeded fourth in the Section V Class C2 sectional bracket and will open at home on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The BraveScots face Wheatland-Chili who are the 13th seed.

Bowling
The Dundee-Bradford bowling team competed in the sectional tournament last week. Cassie Morrissette recorded a first-place finish in Class D with a high game of 228.

Indoor Track
The Dundee-Bradford indoor track teams competed at the Section V meet, Saturday, Feb. 18 at Nazareth College. The boys were third and the girls were seventh. Finishing in the top five were: Peyton Mullin (first-shot put), Logan Buchanan (first-high jump), Madison Hughes (second-55 meter dash, second-long jump and third-triple jump), Camden Buchanan (first-long jump, second-55 meter dash and second-triple jump) and Hayden Erick (first-triple jump, second-high jump and second-long jump).

Penn Yan
Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys basketball team opens the Section V championship bracket as the ninth seed in Class B2. The Mustangs will take on Mynderse (eighth seed), Wednesday, Feb. 22 on the road.

Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team will face eighth-seeded Williamson/Marion in the opening round of the Section V Class B2 tournament. The Mustangs are seeded ninth.
The team also completed their regular season with a game against Mynderse, Wednesday, Feb. 15. The girls lost 42-31. Corinne Barden had 12 points and five rebounds. Bailey Cooper scored seven points with eight rebounds and five steals.

Bowling
The Penn Yan bowling teams both had third-place finishes at the Section V championship last week.
The boys bowled on Tuesday, February 14 at Roseland Bowl in Canandaigua. Their six-game total pinfall of 5,412 earned them third-place honors.
Colin Johnson was named to the All-Tournament Team and was recognized for the high game of the day, 266.
The girls bowled on Thursday, February 16 at Roseland Bowl as well. Their six-game total pinfall of 4,716 also earned them third-place honors.
Anella Tillman was named to the All-Tournament Team and bowled the second-highest game of the day, a 234.
Anella, based on her average of 199 through her 39 games of the season, secured a spot on the Section V Composite team. She will bowl with the composite team at states, which will be held in March.

Indoor Track
The Penn Yan indoor track team competed at the Section V championship, Saturday, Feb. 19 at Nazareth College. The boys were fifth overall and the girls were 15th. Top-five finishes were recorded by: James Tette (first-1,600 meter run and first-3,200 meter run), Kyle Wheeler (second-3,200 meter run), Anthony Wheeler (third-1,000 meter run) and the 4x800 relay team (third).

Hammondsport
Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team will play in the Section V Class D2 bracket this week. The Lakers open with a game against Mount Morris, Friday, Feb. 24 away. Hammondsport is the seventh seed and Mount Morris is the second.

Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls basketball team received a first-round bye and will play Lima Christian in the second round of the Section V Class D2 bracket. The Lakers are the fifth seed and Lima is fourth..
