SPORTS RECAP: Week of 2-9-22

Penn Yan
Wrestling
The Marcus Whitman-Penn Yan wrestling team competed at the Section V Class B1 sectional championships, Saturday, Feb. 5. Place finishers included: Mason Petersen (first-285), Jacob Eaves (fourth-102), David Young (fourth-152) and Alec Benson (sixth-189).
Sectional champion Mason Petersen won by decision over Dominic Lockwood of Hornell, 1-0.
Eaves lost in his final match to Newark's Connor Nenish, 5-2. Young lost by decision, 2-0, to Wayne's Dylan Draper.

Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys basketball team defeated Bath Haverling, 82-34, Saturday, Feb. 5. Brigham Hansen scored 25 points for the Mustangs. Oliver Connelly added 18.
The boys also beat Marcus Whitman, Tuesday, Feb. 1. The final score was 64-52. Griffin Emerson, Connelly and Tanyon Dunning each scored 12 points.

Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost to Midlakes, 41-35, Wednesday, Feb. 2. Kaley Griffin led with 12 points and four rebounds. Jammie Decker added eight points with 11 rebounds and Sierra Harrison had six points and five rebounds.

Bowling
The Penn Yan girls and boys bowling teams beat Honeoye, Wednesday, Feb. 2.
For the girls, Andy Kniffin had a 558. Anella Tillman added a 538.
Leading the boys were Connor Andersen with a 663 and Trenton Samatulski with a 624.
Both teams also beat Geneva, Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Kniffin led the girls with a 577. Tillman had a 546. For the boys, Cameron Bassage contributed a 675. Dutcher Samatulski had a 610.

Dundee/Bradford
Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team recorded three wins last week, moving to 15-1. The BraveScots defeated South Seneca, 64-44, Saturday, Feb. 5. Hallie Knapp led with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Kailey Yeoman contributed 13 points with seven steals. Kendall Parker added 12 points with five steals. Mikayla Schoffner had a team-high 12 rebounds and scored seven points.
The girls also topped South Seneca in a game on Wednesday, Feb. 2. The final score was 67-26. Parker scored 17 points with eight steals. Yeoman had 16 points and also had eight steals. Knapp added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The BraveScots held Red Jacket to 21 points in their victory, Tuesday, Feb. 1. The final score was 39-21. Yeoman had 13 points and Knapp contributed 10 with 11 rebounds.

Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys varsity basketball team improved to 12-4 on the season with a win over South Seneca 86-51, Saturday, Feb. 5. Logan Salvatore paced the team with 49 points; breaking the Dundee school record of 46 points previously held by John Ballard.
The team also defeated Red Jacket, 76-58, Wednesday, Feb. 2. Salvatore led with 20 points, Camden Rosemier added 18 points and Michael End had 14.

Bowling
The Dundee-Bradford bowling team competed against Naples, Wednesday, Feb. 2. The boys won 5-0. Cameron Burke led with a 455. Joe Nowicki added a 399.
The bowlers also faced Midlakes, Monday, Jan. 31. The girls lost 4-1. Jaedyn Brewer had a 513 and Abby Miller contributed a 436. The boys fell 5-0. Burke had a 402 and Gavin Hall a 353.

Wrestling
The Dundee-Bradford wrestling team competed at the Section V Class B3 wrestling championships, Saturday, Feb. 5.
Taking third were Kaden LaBar (215) and Riley Teeter (285). Both pinned their opponents in the consolation final match, in 2:08 and 0:24, respectively.
Dundee-Bradford also had two fifth-place finishers in Hayden Erick (160) and Logan Snyder (172). Shawn LaBar was sixth at 189. All will move on to the state qualifier at Brockport next Saturday.

Indoor Track
The indoor track team competed at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championships, Saturday, Feb. 5.
Top finishers included: Lily Hall (fifth-girls triple jump), Madison Hughes (sixth-girls long jump), Adalyn Tham (eighth-girls 300 meter dash) and Camden Buchanan (third-boys triple jump and fifth-boys long jump).

Hammondsport
Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys basketball team lost to Odessa-Montour, Wednesday, Feb. 2. The final score was 60-54. Individual stats were not reported.

Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team lost to Andover/Whitesville, 62-32, Wednesday, Feb. 2. Individual stats were not reported.

Wrestling
The Avoca-Hammondsport-Prattsburgh wrestling team competed at the Section V Class B3 wrestling championship, Saturday, Feb. 5.
Nathan Young (118) was second after falling to Noah Leitten in the final match. Peyton Hoad (110) was fourth, as was George Drake (152). Jeremiah Robbins (285) took sixth. All will advance to the state qualifier.

Watkins Glen
Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team defeated Edison, Tuesday, Feb. 1. The final score was 70-21. The Senecas are 15-1 on the year.

Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team lost to Edison, 40-31, Tuesday, Feb. 1. Rachel Vickio scored 14 points and Lillian Ameigh had eight.

Boys Swimming
The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour swimming team beat Dryden 94-36, Wednesday, Feb. 2. First-place finishes were recorded by: the 200 medley relay team, Ryan Dean (200 free and 500 free), Jon Spencer (200 IM), Nick DeLong (50 free), Lane Roy (diving), Liam Smith (100 fly and 100 back) and Ben Swinnerton (100 free).
The team lost to Lansing, 96-87, Tuesday, Feb. 1. First-place finishers included: Smith (200 free and 500 free), Max Ricca (diving), Spencer (100 free), the 200 free relay team and Swinnerton (100 breaststroke).

Odessa-Montour
Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team defeated Hammondsport, 60-54, Wednesday, Feb. 2. Cayden Confer scored 18 points and Keith June had 15.

Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team lost to Spencer-Van Etten 44-26, Tuesday, Feb. 1. Hannah Nolan scored 12 points.

Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen wrestling team competed at the Section IV class qualifier, Saturday, Feb. 5.
Lucas Hoffman finished second falling to Anthony Valls in the final match, 3-0.
Dominick Fazzary took third, winning the final match over teammate Jeremy Miller with a pin in 2:57. Miller will also advance to the state qualifier with his fourth-place finish..

Sections: SPORTS
