Starkey town board 03/05/09

Meeting: Starkey town board met for one and one quarter hours March 5 followed by an executive session to discuss legal matters.
Attendance: All council members were present. Three member of the public were in the audience.
Action: Scheduled a public hearing during the April 9 board meeting for comments on proposed changes in the senior citizen tax exemption. The changes were approved last year.  However, there was an error in the amounts which required another public hearing.
• Directed supervisor Richard Burcaw to research Certificate of Deposit rates and to select the institution that offers the town the best rates. It was agreed to bring Chemung County Trust Company into the town’s banking/investment family
• In response to a request from a town resident, agreed to remedy an area on South Glenora Road near the lake where fill has washed away over the years.
Discussion without action: Discussed the possibility of waiving the operating permit fee for nonprofit organizations. Board members will review the permit and revisit the issue during the April meeting.
• Heard an update on the Community Wellness project from coordinator Lauren Snyder.

Upcoming meetings: The next regular meeting is April 9 at 8 p.m. in the town hall on Seneca Street in Dundee.
