State announces summer road work

TRI-COUNTY AREA—The New York State Department of Transportation has announced its 2009 summer road projects.
In Yates County, the work includes:
• Guardrail installation along Route 14 in Starkey, Route 54 in Barrington, and Route 364 in Benton.  According to the DOT, work should be underway and will be finished by the end of the summer.  Traffic will be maintained using lane closures and flagging operations.
In Steuben County, the work includes:
•  The guardrail work will be continued into Steuben along Route 54, in Urbana and Bath.
• There will be culvert work along Route 54A in Urbana and Pulteney.  The project is expected to last until late fall and not interfere with traffic.
In Schuyler County, the work includes:
• Steel and concrete repairs will be done to State Route 414 over the Seneca Canal.  According to the DOT, work is expected to last three months.
•  Pavement will be resurfaced on Route 14 from the northern Montour Falls village limits south to Raymond Street.  In Hector, Route 227 will also be resurfaced from Stage Road to Black Road.   According to the DOH, work for both projects is expected to start in June or July and last approximately one week.  However, there may be lane closures.
• Schuyler will also have guardrail work done on Route 14 in Montour and Route 414 in Hector.  It is expected to be underway and finish by the end of the summer.  Traffic will see lane closures.
• There will be a number of locations receiving culvert repairs; including Route 79 in Hector, Route 414 in Dix, Route 14 in Dix, and Route 226 in Tyrone.
