KEUKA LAKE--The Keuka Comfort Care Home benefit, Krossin' Keuka, will be held this Saturday, July 30. The event includes a fun swim across a .67-mile section of Keuka Lake, with organizers and spectators set up at Point Neamo on the shore at Keuka College. Swimmers are overseen by kayak paddlers who line the route and provide a buoyant rest platform for swimmers who need a break. Paddlers will arrive at 6:30 a.m. and swimmers at 6:45 a.m. for the 7 a.m. kick-off. The first boat of swimmers heads across the lake at 7:10 a.m.
Pontoon boats shuttle swimmers in pods across the lake to the east side where they then enter the water and swim back to the finish line at the college lakefront.
All money raised from this event is for the Keuka Comfort Care Home, a facility and staff that ensures compassionate care in a peaceful, home-like environment for the community's terminally ill residents and their families, at no cost. Swimmers are required to pay a $25 registration fee and raise at least $150 before the event. However, many of the groups raise significantly more money. For example, the current leaderboard of teams by fundraising total includes: Keuka Krawlers - $12,984, Keuka Cruisers - $6,714 and Wunder Team - $4,469. Amy Stewart is the leading individual fundraiser with $7,382.
