Watkins awards building contracts

WATKINS GLEN—Three contracts for work on the municipal building were awarded at the village of Watkins Glen board of trustees regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 18. The general contractor bid submitted by Welliver McGuire, Inc. of Montour Falls for the amount of $509,690 was accepted. HMI Mechanical Systems, Inc. from Lyons, N.Y. bid for the plumbing contract at $47,390 was also accepted. The electrical contract was awarded to John Mills Electric, Inc. from Elmira Heights for the bid of $152,100. The bid for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning was rejected on advice from the architect. A new bid process for this contract was submitted (after press time) Tuesday, Jan. 25.
Schuyler County Legislator Philip Barnes attended the meeting and requested the board approve moving the polling place from the Community Center to the firehouse for the March election. Barnes pointed out that the firehouse, at 201 N. Perry St., would provide easier access to citizens without transportation than the Community Center. The trustees postponed the issue until the February meeting to have an opportunity to discuss the issue with the fire department Chief Dominick Smith.
