After abrupt closing, Glen Theater will reopen

WATKINS GLEN—Management at the Glen Theater on Franklin Street has changed and the theater is currently closed for renovations.
The Glen Theater and the Heights Theater are both owned by Painted Post businessman Robert Wylie. The theaters were previously managed by Watkins native Erich Herzig until June 20. Tim Bonomo was named as the new manager for the Watkins and Elmira Heights theaters. Bonomo explained the change in management happened quicker than was planned.
Bonomo said Herzig gave notification he didn’t intend to continue and stepped down. The Glen Theater closed June 20. Bonomo planned on taking over fully in late August or early September without closing the theaters at all. He called the transition “abrupt.”
Bonomo explained he hopes to reopen the theater July 12. Meanwhile, employees are cleaning the interior for renovations. He said the projectors have been taken out and will be replaced with even newer digital equipment. The box office will also converted to digital.
Bonomo said the biggest issue with the change in management is he will not be able to honor any gift certificates or scheduled events. He explained he doesn’t have a record of what certificates were given out or even how many. Bonomo said he is instructing people to contact Herzig about refunds since Herzig sold the gift certificates.
Herzig did not return calls by press time.
