Penn Yan seniors celebrate graduation

PENN YANThe Penn Yan class of 2013 celebrated its 118 graduating seniors during their ceremony Friday, June 21 on the football field. Class President James Burdette spoke to his classmates, telling them with the education they have received, they all have the potential to be successful.
"High school will always be a crucial part of our lives, but I challenge you not to let it be the best part," Burdette said.
National Honors Society President David Travis also gave a speech, talking about the "dreaded question" family members often ask graduating students about what they plan to do in the coming years to be successful. He told his fellow classmates to hold on to their dreams and not let society's expectations make them lose sight of those goals.
Associate Superintendent for Instruction Howard Dennis was the guest speaker for the ceremony. During his speech he highlighted the changes the students have experienced since beginning their education in Penn Yan, citing renovations to the elementary and high school, the building of Mustang Stadium and changes to the village itself as examples.
"This is your opportunity to put your stamp on the world," Dennis said.
