DUNDEE--The village of Dundee is gearing up for a holiday celebration this weekend.
"Touch of Christmas" will be held from 6 to 8 p.m Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Seneca Street Park. "Touch of Christmas" is a village-wide gathering where area children can meet with Santa Claus while also enjoying holiday treats, gifts, live entertainment and horse-drawn carriage rides. Donations by business and community sponsors make the entire event free of charge for Dundee area families.
Santa Claus will be arriving at "Touch of Christmas" at 6:05 p.m., while Village Trustee Judy Duquette said the line usually starts forming to see him around 5:30 p.m. She added Santa will also be distributing a "goodie bag" to the kids that he sees. Duquette said the horse and wagon rides will once again be provided by Our Town RoCKS this year. Our Town RoCKS will also be passing out one book per family and healthy snacks at the event.
"I'm expecting warmer weather so I think we will draw out more people this year," Duquette said. "Last year it was cold and the roads were bad so not as many people came out, but it should be warmer this year."
Duquette said the food provided includes fried dough, sausage, bacon-wrapped water chestnuts, hot chocolate, coffee, cookies and hot dogs. The Dundee Fire Department will also be distributing chili throughout the night.
Music will be provided by a DJ. The Crystal Valley Mennonite Church will also put on a live manger scene throughout the night.
"It is nice that everything is family-oriented, and the best part is everyone can leave their wallet at home," Duquette said.
