Memorial Day: Honor the fallen heroes

TRI-COUNTY AREA—With Memorial Day approaching Monday, May 26, area towns and villages are preparing local events to honor the memories of those who died serving their country.
In Dundee, the annual village parade will begin at 10 a.m., culminating with a memorial service at the Seneca Street Park.
Penn Yan had not officially decided their Memorial Day activity at press time. The decision was planned to be decided by the village board Tuesday evening, May 20.
The town of Torrey’s Memorial Day Service begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Dresden United Methodist Church with Dr. David Hamilton as the guest speaker. There will be a parade to the cemetery following the service.
The Wayne History Group and Friends of Tyrone will also have a service at 10 a.m. in the Wayne village cemetery.
The village of Watkins Glen’s service begins at 11 a.m. at the county courthouse. The annual memorial service at She-Qua-Ga Falls Park takes place at 9:30 a.m. Charles Tarshus will speak at the event. There will also be a memorial service in Odessa at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
In Hammondsport, the American Legion Honor Guard will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. in the village cemetery. Following that, there will be a tribute to veterans at the Hammondsport Village Square Veterans Honor Roll Memorial.
