FINGER LAKES--The Finger Lakes Area Counseling and Recovery Agency (FLACRA) recently announced a new treatment service is available. The Center of Treatment Innovation (COTI) will focus on increased access to treatment, addressing unmet treatment needs and reducing overdose- related deaths for those in Ontario and Yates Counties. This new program is a direct response to the opioid and heroin crisis that has been seen locally as well as nationally.
Additional services will include certified peer specialists, substance use disorder (SUD) clinical specialists, medication assisted treatment, 24/7 availability for all persons in need, an immediate response team serving Ontario and Yates Counties and telehealth providing access to medical personnel.
There is no cost for COTI services and the services are offered 24/7 to family, friends, persons experiencing opioid / heroin related issues, providers, key partners, stake holders and other persons experiencing SUDs.
These services are in addition to FLACRA's other resources including the addictions crisis center, community residences, supportive living residences, veterans residences, outpatient clinics, Health Homes of Upstate New York (HHUNY), Children's Health Home of Upstate New York (CHHUNY) and Home and Community Based Services (HBCS).
Anyone who needs help can reach out to FLACRA at 833-435-2272.
President Donald Trump recently directed a declaration of a Nationwide Public Health Emergency to address the opioids crisis. In that action, the administration cited, in 2016, more than 11.5 million Americans ages 12 and older reported misuse of prescription opioids in the past year, and nearly 950,000 Americans reported heroin use in the past year. Drug overdoses are now the leading cause of injury death in the United States, outnumbering both traffic crashes and gun-related deaths.
