Paving resumes in Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN--The state Department of Transportation announced Thursday, June 13 that on Tuesday evening, June 18, paving work would resume on State Route 14 in the village of Watkins Glen. The paving will be done between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. the nights of June 18 to 20. During these times, traffic will be detoured onto Fairgrounds Lane, Decatur Street and First Street.
Paving work is weather sensitive. This schedule will be adjusted in the event of forecasted rain. The work will complete the finish, top course pavement on Route 14 through the village of Watkins Glen.
The DOT email noted it is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully through the many highway and bridge construction zones they will encounter this season.
Officials urge motorists to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones. To learn more about the Move Over law and what they are doing to keep workers and motorists safe in highway construction zones, visit www.ny.gov/workzonesafety.
Motorists are reminded fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver license.
