Penn Yan middle school needs a new roof

PENN YAN—Penn Yan Superintendent David Hamilton said he received a report back from the architects who did the first thorough investigation of the middle school roof, during the Penn Yan school board meeting Wednesday, Jan. 15. He said the district does need to replace the middle school roof, but the architects think they can push it off until 2015 if some repairs are done this year. Hamilton said if the district can push it into 2015, they can put it in a regular capital bond project with state aid, and with some patching work done out of reserve repair funds. He said the architects will attend the Feb. 12 school board meeting to present the board with more information on possible action
In other business:
• The board approved changes to the 2013-14 school calendar to include a conference day April 11 and a half-conference day May 9. There will be no school April 11 and school for students in the morning May 9.
• The board approved terminating the services of Systems Analyst Abraham Guerrero effective immediately for reasons stated in the hearing officer’s decision.
