DUNDEE-Dundee Central School celebrated the 78th annual commencement ceremony, Thursday, June 22. Although the forecast and a few clouds hinted at rain, the ceremony was held outside on the front lawn as 51 students were congratulated.
Before the graduates were presented with their diplomas, a number of speeches were given by teachers, school administrators and students. Valedictorian Calley Knapp addressed the class offering some advice. "Do not spend your life trapped in a career that does not leave you with a sense of fulfillment. Adventure, but do so responsibly." She continued "Kindness has the ability to take you far, and don't forget that kindness can come in many forms. A simple 'hello' and 'how are you' can have the craziest impact on someones day."
Salutatorian Alexa Wilderotter talked about the deep bond between friends, family and school. "We have worked so hard and come so far, and while we worked tremendously hard we didn't do it alone. We had all of you by our sides helping us along the way. All the time you have put in has finally paid off."
Also graduating with the Class of 2017 was Mr. Wayne Leroy Campbell through Operation Recognition. Campbell is a Purple Heart recipient from his military service and was honored with a degree. Operation Recognition acknowledges the devotion and sacrifice of World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam era veterans who left school early.
