Schuyler resident wins $1 million

BURDETT—Schuyler County resident Doid Kerns, 74, of Valois received  a check for $1 million Tuesday, July 22 for winning second place in a New York Lottery Powerball drawing. Kerns won the drawing after purchasing a ticket at the Dandy Mini Mart in Burdett June 4.
“I was very excited,” Kerns said.
The New York Lottery’s Yolanda Vega presented the ceremonial oversized prize check to Kerns Tuesday morning at the Burdett Dandy Mini Mart. Kerns, upon receiving his check, said the first thing he is going to do with his newly won money is pay off his current debts and spend the money on family.
“I’m going to pay off my debts, give my daughter money for my grandkids for college and buy a Chevy,” Kerns said.
