Starkey rejects appointed superintendent position

YATES COUNTY--The midterm elections took place across the country, Tuesday, Nov. 6, with a number of local races on the ballot. Yates, like many of the other upstate counties overwhelmingly voted against statewide candidates who ultimately went on to win.
Tom Reed defeated challenger Tracy Mitrano for the U.S. Congress position. In Yates County, he carried the vote total 4,317-3,111 and in all of the 23rd District, he won 122,881-100,495.
Likewise, incumbent Thomas O'Mara topped Amanda Kirchgessner, 4,832-2,494 locally, and took nearly 60 percent of the vote in the total district.
Starkey voters rejected proposition number one, which would have changed the elected town superintendent of highways to an appointed position. The vote total was 397 no to 349 yes.
Todd Whitford was elected town justice for Jerusalem, besting Sharon Pinckney 777-690.
In the statewide elections, Yates parted ways with most of the overall results.
Andrew Cuomo was elected governor with 3,357,881 votes to second place finisher Marc Molinaro with 2,093,178. In Yates, Molinaro won 4,633-2,229.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand carried the state with 3,729,966 votes but lost locally to Chele Farley 4,002-3,336.
Letitia James won the Attorney General position and Thomas DiNapoli the Comptroller post, both were not the winners in Yates.
