Watkins will host six-hour race

WATKINS GLEN (6/29/16)--Watkins Glen International will host the annual Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen event this Independence Day weekend. The weekend of racing runs from Thursday, June 30 through Sunday, July 3.
The entry field includes the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Mazda Prototype Lites, Porsche GT3 Cup USA, and Lamborghini Super Trofeo.
"The WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is unlike any other racing series in the country, in that you can walk right up to the team transporters and see the mechanics working on the cars, catch a driver in the paddock, and walk the grid before the race," said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. "Our fans are treated to an experience like none other during the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen."
In honor of those who currently serve in the U.S. military, and those who have served in the past, Kaplan University and Watkins Glen International are offering complimentary tickets to active duty military personnel and veterans of the United States Armed Forces for theSunday, July 3 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Guests who show their military ID at Gates 4A or Gate 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday will receive two complimentary tickets.
The gates will open at 7 a.m. Thursday morning, with practice runs for the Prototype Lites, the Porsche GT 3 Cup Challenge, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series running from 8:45 a.m. through 4:20 p.m. The Lites will also have a qualifying run that day.
Gates open once again at 7 a.m. Friday, with qualifying and practice runs starting at 8 a.m. The first race of the day will begin at 9:05 a.m., with races concluding at 6:45 p.m. The Sahlen's ninth annual hot dog eating contest will be from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m., with the Fridaynight concert running from 8 to 10:30 p.m., featuring Iron Horse and Nikki Briar and the SweetBriar Band.
Saturday's gates open at 7 a.m., with races and qualifying happening from 8:05 a.m. to 6:25 p.m. throughout the day. Saturday will culminate with a fireworks show at sundown.
Sunday's event starts with gates opening at 7 a.m., with the green flag for the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen for the TUDOR Championship taking place at 10:10 a.m. and concluding at 4:10 p.m.
