WATKINS GLEN--A woman was found dead Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Phish Magnaball concert at Watkins Glen International. The Schuyler County Sheriff's Department confirmed the victim was a 28-year-old female from Indiana. The case is currently being investigated by the Schuyler County Sheriff's Department, which indicated no foul play is currently suspected. Dispatcher Kirk Smith confirmed the woman was found dead at the scene Sunday, but did not indicate what time the victim died.
The sheriff's department added they are preparing a release regarding the death, but did not provide further details as of press time Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The three-day concert was attended by some 30,000 people. The Phish Magnaball concert began Friday, Aug. 21 and ran until Sunday, Aug. 23 at Watkins Glen International. The racetrack became a small community during the weekend in order to accommodate the many campers at the racetrack, many of whom came from outside the area to attend the festival. This is the second time the band has performed in the area, having previously played at WGI in 2011. There were no deaths reported during the band's 2011 performance.
