Yates County holds recycling event

Yates COUNTY--Earth Day means different things to different people, but the three tenets reduce, reuse, and recycle are central to many Earth Day initiatives.
In Yates County, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County is hosting a recycling event at the Yates County Building Friday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day. The first 100 people to bring recyclables will receive a free tree seedling.
During the event, there will be workshops on composting, recycling, and more. Two-Can Dan's Bottles and Cans will be on site to accept cardboard, aluminum cans, tin cans, #1 and #2 plastic (soda and water bottles, milk jugs, household cleaner bottles, juice bottles, shampoo bottles, detergent bottles, etc.) and glass bottles and jars.
They will also accept flat panel televisions, printers, fax machines, laptops, computer towers, keyboards, VCR and DVD players, and gaming consoles. Additionally, they will take all metals, large appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, stoves, and washers. Recycling anything with a coolant requires a $10.00 fee, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units, water coolers, and dehumidifiers.
They will also take small appliances such as microwaves, fans, coffee pots, toaster ovens, hair dryers, and vacuums. There will be locked bins on site for shredding confidential documents.
This event is free and open to the public. Cornell Cooperative Extension will be accepting donations in the rear parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Penn Yan. For more, call 315-536-5123.
