Yates sheriff releases new phone app

YATES COUNTY--In an effort to increase public engagement and catch more criminals, the Yates County Sheriff's Department has released a new public safety application designed for use on smart phones.
The new app, which is free, is designed to help local residents stay informed through a number of features while also giving residents access to important resources.
"You will now have the ability to have information related to cold cases, most wanted, our jail, programs and services we offer, training, victim notifications, submit a tip, and many more features, all in one place, right at your fingertips, and best of all, at no cost to you," said Sheriff Ron Spike in a prepared statement announcing the app.
For many parents an important feature allows anyone to search known sex offenders by either name or location while at the same time providing a map listing of every known sex offender in the county. The app also allows residents to sign up for notifications in case there is a change in any inmate's status.
"This app allows us to deliver up to date information in a timely fashion to those who are most important to us, the citizens of Yates County," Spike is quoted in the statement.
The app also grants the ability for anyone to submit a tip either anonymously or with your contact information. You can even send photos if you want; however the Sheriff's Department encourages anyone experiencing or witnessing an emergency to call 911.
The app is intuitive and easy to use with all the features clearly marked. If someone were interested in just scrolling the county's most wanted list they can do that. If instead you wished to engage the department through social media there are links leading to the department's Facebook and Twitter pages.
Other features include access to press releases, cold cases, programs and services, potential employment opportunities and even the local temperature.
To download the app, search "Yates County Sheriff" in the app Store if you have an iPhone or Google Play for smart phones that run on Android.
