HAMMONDSPORT-- With events continuing to return this year after a pandemic pause, the Keuka Lake Art Association 54th Annual Art Show will take place Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10 at the village square in Hammondsport. With a mixture of old and young artists, both professional and amateur, there will be a number of monetary awards handed out throughout the event judged by a panel of experts.
"This is our 54th show after an absence of two years due to COVID restrictions," said Carol Olszewski. "We have a tradition of featuring fine art in the categories of watercolor and oil and acrylic paintings, drawing and graphics, photography, pottery, sculpture, and jewelry."
The non-profit organization returns all proceeds from the event to artists and supports the show.
"My favorite part is simply walking around the park and looking at the artwork our exhibitors have created. It is always nice to see returning artists from past shows," Olszewski mentioned. "We also feature work by high school and college students to encourage them to continue their artwork."
Along with her husband Tony, Olszewski said that she has been volunteering at the show for more than 30 years.
"The Keuka Lake Art Show [began] as an outlet for the adult students in a class taught by art teacher Michael Moretti," Olszewski explained. "The show grew from that informal exhibit to what it is now."
As time went on, the art show expanded into one of the summer features in Hammondsport.
"I think the community looks forward to strolling through the park to look around and enjoy the artwork and hopefully find an item that speaks to them," added Olszewski.
The Hammondsport Art Show will take place in the Village Square on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
