The 38th annual StarShine, a holiday tradition in the village of Penn Yan, will occur Saturday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m.
New last year, and continuing again this year, was the Lights on Wheels Parade Friday night.
“This year we have nearly 40 vehicles, double last year,” said Chelsea Race, director of marketing at the Yates County Chamber of Commerce. “The parade, in conjunction with Penn Yan FFA, is kicking off the weekend festivities Friday, Dec. 1, at 6 p.m. on Main Street in Penn Yan.”
Saturday evening will feature a variety of music, entertainment, food, vendors, colorful lights, holiday treats, and activities for children. The crowning of Miss Penn Yan is tentatively planned for 6:20 p.m.
A section of the event specifically designated for children’s activities includes a petting zoo, wagon rides, face painting, games, and a magician. Visitors can see Santa and Mrs. Claus from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Community Bank. There will be an Elf School, hosted by friendly elves from Keuka College and held at the Penn Yan Firehouse. Kids can participate in activities such as grabbing cookie decorating kits to-go, making reindeer food, playing games, and more. Additionally, Penn Yan Theatre Company (PYTCo) will present “An Evening of Music and Lights” at The Sampson Theatre from 4 to 8 p.m.
The 2023 StarShine event is sponsored by ServU Federal Credit Union, Lyons National Bank, Keuka College, Coplai Insurance Agency and Penn Yan Community Health. This year’s donors are Lattimore Physical Therapy of Penn Yan, Village Drug & Water Street Pharmacy, Bank of the Finger Lakes, Dailey Electric, Wager’s Cider Mill, Community Bank N.A., and the Penn Yan Fire Department.
