Candidates look to become Miss Penn Yan at StarShine

PENN YAN--During the StarShine celebration in Penn Yan Saturday, Dec. 2, six candidates will vie for the title of Miss Penn Yan. The crowning ceremony will take place at approximately 6:20 p.m. on the StarShine stage. The candidates include:
Charley Eveland is the daughter of Charles and Brooke Eveland, a junior at Penn Yan Academy, and is being sponsored by the Penn Yan Rotary Club. If Charley were to become Miss Penn Yan she would dedicate her time to the future of our town. Charley believes the future starts with today’s youth and would like to give more opportunities for individuals to be a part of activities and sports. Charley has participated in varsity soccer, varsity fall and winter cheerleading and is a camp counselor at Indian Pines Park. Dedication, commitment, drive and leadership are a few words used to describe Charley by her coaches. She is upstanding, hardworking and a positive contributor to the community.  She is employed at the Seneca Farms Coop in addition to babysitting. In her spare time Charley enjoys reading, cheerleading and skiing with her family.
Danielle (Dani) Miller is the daughter of Bob and Amy Miller, a junior at Penn Yan Academy and is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Yankee Theatre Company (PYTCO). If Danielle were to become Miss Penn Yan she would continue to raise awareness with some of the groups she’s involved in to help children and families in our community. As part of her Silver Award program for Girl Scouts, Danielle founded and currently maintains “Share the Game” which is a used athletic equipment closet for children and families in Yates County. She has partnered with The Living Well so the equipment closet can be a long-standing resource for years to come. Danielle has participated in jazz band, yearbook club, international club, drama club (stage manager and pit member), JV and varsity volleyball and varsity softball. Compassion, determination and commitment are a few words used to describe Danielle by her peers. She has strong values and is a positive example for those around her. She is employed at the Lake Street Plaza Theatre, babysits, volunteers with the Girl Scouts as a leader assistant and the varsity reads program. In her spare time, Danielle enjoys music, playing her instrument, playing volleyball, softball and spending time with her family, friends and pets.
Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger is the daughter of Jeanne Wiltberger, a junior at Penn Yan Academy and is sponsored by Friends of the Outlet. If Maihue were to become Miss Penn Yan she would create a “Green Week” for the community over Earth and Arbor Day to raise awareness about the environment. She believes having a good and healthy environment can help boost mental health and encourage active lifestyles. Participants would gather at the outlet to plant trees and learn more about the benefits of nature. Maihue brings with her a strong sense of purpose, desire to help others and strong leadership skills according to her teachers and inspires everyone around her to be their best selves. In her spare time, Maihue enjoys playing sports, reading, watersports and swimming.
Annika Reinard is the daughter of Scott and Lisa Reinard, a junior at Penn Yan Academy and is sponsored by The Elks Club. If Annika were to become Miss Penn Yan she would use the opportunity to try and get the youth more involved in the betterment of Penn Yan. She would work with the Elks Club and Penn Yan Academy to encourage students to give back to the community through something they are passionate about. Integrity, hard work and dedication are a few words used to describe Annika by her teachers. She is an inspiration for others and displays leadership qualities in the classroom and community. Annika has participated in debate club, varsity club, varsity tennis, advanced ballet at the Seneca School of Performing Arts, musical theater at SSPA, master minds, pep club, green team biomedical club, BSA venturing crew 44 and camp invention. In her spare time, Annika enjoys crocheting, baking, dancing, playing tennis and spending time with her family and friends.
Amanda Smith is the daughter of Andrew and Tammy Smith, a junior at Penn Yan Academy and is sponsored by the Penn Yan Lions Club. If Amanda were to become Miss Penn Yan she would start a program to support youth sports by providing resources to benefit the children in the community and in hopes to increase the number of youth sport participants. Motivation, punctuality, and team player are a few words that describe Amanda according to her peers. She has participated in leo club, debate club, biomed club, outdoor venture club, science Olympiad and healthy lifestyles club; also involved in tennis, indoor track and field and lacrosse and the Yatesville United Methodist Church. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys running, hiking, golf, skiing, baking and playing tennis.
Marion Wheeler is the daughter of Dan Wheeler and Carrie Williams, a junior at Penn Yan Academy and is sponsored by the Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Club. If Marion were to become Miss Penn Yan she would create a youth mentor program for the community to provide a safe place for youth to come and get the support and guidance needed for any life challenges they may be facing. Marion brings with her a strong sense of responsibility and leadership with the desire to always give her best. She is a leader through her actions and character according to her teachers and coaches. She has participated in leo club, biomed club, Penn Yan green team, is the secretary for the class of 2025, varsity club and Penn Yan lacrosse spaghetti dinner; plays soccer and lacrosse for Penn Yan Academy. In her spare time, Marion enjoys reading, sports, journaling and photography.
