Champlin pleads guilty, takes plea deal
PENN YAN--Robert "Bob" Champlin, the former owner of Lloyd's Limited Pub in Penn Yan, accepted a plea deal, Wednesday, Dec. 5. Champlin pleaded guilty to two counts of sex abuse stemming from a video that was posted on social media last Christmas Eve into early Christmas morning. Police reported at the time the video showed the suspect "inappropriately touching a female victim." When additional video footage was recovered from the bar, officers said "the female who released the initial video on social media also became a victim of sexual abuse by Mr. Champlin." The two guilty counts are class D felonies and carry up to a three-year prison sentence. There will be 10 years of post-supervision release and the requirement to be registered as a sex offender. Sentencing is scheduled for March in 2019 by Judge Jason Cook. In June, a Yates County grand jury indicted Champlin on felony charges of first-degree criminal sex act, first-degree attempted rape and first-degree sexual abuse. Champlin was also charged with misdemeanor offenses. Todd Casella, Yates County district attorney, said at the time, "The sentence can be between five-25 years."
