Dundee community 'Street Dance' is June 3

DUNDEE--The Dundee class of 2020 will be holding a Street Dance Friday evening, June 3, which is open to the community. The event will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will be held behind the Dundee school in the back loop. The event will feature concessions, music, a bounce house/jousting, a dry paint war, a dodgeball tournament, a hot dog eating contest, vendors and more.
Class of 2020 Advisor Erin Brooks said this is an annual dance the eighth grade class must put on every year, but noted this is the first time attendance has been extended to the entire community as far as she knows. As this is an annual fundraiser for the class trip to Washington, D.C., she said the students wanted to open it up to the whole village as a way to potentially draw a bigger crowd and raise more funds. Brooks said the goal is to raise between $1,000 and $1,500 throughout the night.
Brooks noted the eighth grade class has been working on the event planning for a couple of months, adding it has been on the calendar for the entire year. She said they held class meetings to decide what the students wanted to do for the event, and developed the idea for the community-wide event. Brooks said if all goes well this year, she thinks it would be a great idea to continue to allow the entire village to attend in future years.
Brooks noted interest in the event has been growing, highlighting the 98 kids who have already signed up for the event's dry paint war. A dry paint war is where teams work to cover members of the opposing team in as much of their color of dry paint as possible. The paint is a mixture of dry paint and cornstarch.
Brooks said there are also four teams of five people each signed up for the dodgeball tournament. There are currently seven people who have signed up for the hot dog eating contest. She added everybody has been very supportive of the event.
While the cutoff for pre-sale tickets is Thursday, June 2, tickets will be available from $10 at the door.
