Falls Harvest Festival returns this Saturday

MONTOUR FALLS--The annual Falls Harvest Festival will take over Main Street in Montour Falls on Saturday, Oct. 1, from noon to 7:00 p.m. Live music from Still Kickin' will headline this year's event that also features a kids' zone entertainment area and craft and food vendors.
Organizers expect to welcome several thousand people to the Festival, which is an opportunity to welcome autumn.
"This event nearly marks the end of the harvest season," said Bruce Boughton, committee chair and hub manager and assistant vice president for Chemung Canal. "We are optimistic that the weather will cooperate so community members can enjoy more than 50 vendors in addition to all the entertainment."
Participating vendors and where they will be located are available online (https://watkinsglen.com/falls-harvest-festival/) as is the schedule for the day's entertainment. The Historical Society will once again present Ghost Walks through the village, guided by Gary Emerson. Amazing Pete is back with balloon animals and fire juggling. An opening ceremony will be held at noon with Mayor Jim Ryan.
"Amazing Pete will light the six Parmenter fire pits in the Pocket Park around 5:30," said Boughton, explaining that attendees can enjoy bonfires while watching the fireworks. "The Parmenter Community Bonfire in the Pocket Park [grassy area near Lee Street] is the most picturesque place to watch the fireworks."
The fireworks will begin at 7:15, with She-qua-ga Falls serving as the backdrop for the explosions of color.
The Festival is produced by Watkins Glen Promotions, who worked with a dozen volunteers led by Boughton to organize the day-long event. In addition to a county grant, the festival is largely supported by sponsors, including this year's title sponsors: Schuyler Hospital, Cayuga Medical Center, and the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce. The complete list of sponsors can be found online.
