Free at-home COVID tests available now

The United States Department of Health and Human Services in conjunction with the United States Postal Service will begin accepting orders for at-home COVID-19 tests, Wednesday, Jan. 19.
Every home is eligible to order four free at-home COVID-19 tests. Orders will usually ship in seven to 12 days.
The website at www.covidtests.gov will take and manage the orders.
The tests available for order:
• Are rapid antigen at-home tests, not polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
• Can be taken anywhere.
• Give results within 30 minutes (no lab drop-off required).
• Work whether or not you have COVID-19 symptoms.
• Work whether or not you are up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines.
• Are also referred to self-tests or over-the-counter (OTC) tests.
HHS recommends to take an at-home test when:

• You begin having COVID-19 symptoms like fever, sore throat, runny nose, or loss of taste or smell.
• At least five days after you come into close contact with someone with COVID-19.

• When you're going to gather with a group of people, especially those who are at risk of severe disease or may not be up to date on their vaccines.
If a person tests positive, even if there are minimal or no symptoms, they should begin to follow the isolation guidelines from New York available here https://tinyurl.com/ycks2pde.
If you receive a negative test, it means that the test did not find the virus. Check your test kit's instructions for specific next steps. You should test again within a few days with at least 24 hours between tests.
The tests are available for every residential address in the U.S., including U.S. Territories and overseas military and diplomatic addresses. To place an order, all you need is your name and address. No ID, credit card, or health insurance information is required. You may also share your email address to get updates on your order.
